Alicante is a city full of life and history. – What to know before visiting

Alicante is a lively port city and provincial capital in Valencian Community. It is a great spot to discover the Costa Blanca and the Spanish Levante region, with its beautiful beaches and great historical places. You can start discovering the history of Alicante by visiting the archaeological site of the Lucentum Tossal de Manises, an Iberian-Roman remnant of the city of Lucentum, which was part of the early settlements of Alicante. It is located just 3 km away from the historic center of the city, or enjoy a beach day at the Viveros Romanos, a former Roman fish farm in front of the sea that locals use as a seawater pool with beautiful views of the city. 

The Old Town of Barri Vell – Santa Creu is located at the feet of the Santa Bárbara Castle, an IX-century Muslim fortification that overlooks the city from a hill.
