Discovering Cuenca and the Hanging Houses – What to know before visiting.

Cuenca is a city in the Castilla-La Mancha region located on top of sheer cliffs and surrounded by rivers, making it an excellent place to enjoy unique views of the Spanish landscape and discover great architecture and spectacular gastronomy. With early settlements during the late Paleolithic, the origins of the city of Cuenca can be traced back to the Caliphate of Cordoba during the Arab invasion around the VIII century, giving the name of Kunka to the citadel founded there. After the Reconquista, the Christians took the city in the XII century and started a process of growth of the medieval town. During this time, the city saw splendor in its construction. Several emblematic buildings from this time can be seen today, such as Catedral de Santa María y San Julián de Cuenca, from the XIII century.
