This town is a small but inviting city with a beautiful historic center and a conveniently small size to be a walkable city with over 2000 years of history. Huesca es a cultural spot worth visiting and discovering.

The area where Huesca is was an early settlement for the Iberian tribes, but a century later, the area was under Roman control, and the era’s population changed the town’s name to Osca; that’s why today its inhabitants are known as Oscenses. During the Al-Andalus era, the city’s name changed again and became Wasqa, similar to how the city is known today. During this era and to avoid the invasions of the Christians, the Mozarabic people constructed walls around Huesca to fortify the town. You can discover these remains in the Muralla de Huesca, north of the city.

The city grew during the Christian era, and the reconquest and the construction of cathedrals and churches started. Discover the medieval town on the city streets and its beautiful churches and cathedrals, such as the Abbey of San Pedro el Viejo, with a Romanesque style from the XII century, or the Catedral de Huesca, the main religious construction of the city of the Renaissance era and beautiful Gothic style. Other significant buildings of this town era are the Huesca City Hall, a Renaissance style from the XVI century, the Huesca Museum from the XII century, and the Ibercaja Huesca center – Villahermosa Palace, a building from the XVII century now used as a cultural center. Still, the city kept growing until modern times.
