Lugo is one of those cities that is still not as touristy as other parts of Spain but is a worth-visiting spot of Galicia with plenty of historic sites, excellent gastronomy, and one-of-a-kind sights to uncover. With its two millennia of history, Lugo is a city that has seen the development of Spanish history. The town was a Roman campsite around 25 BCE, and it grew under Roman control until the end of the wall’s construction around 325 CE. Discover this remnant of the Roman era in many of the city’s archaeological sites, such as the Roman house and temple of Domus Mitreo, Casa dos Mosaicos, the Roman Pool, and the Roman Aqueduct.

Enter the city from one of the many gates of the Roman Walls of Lugo, the most preserved Roman wall in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk around the wall and climb it up through the different stairs around the city. Discover the medieval history of Lugo and visit other of Lugo’s Heritage Sites in the Lugo Cathedral near Praza Santa María, the main cathedral of the city and constructed in the XIII century in a Romanesque and Gothic style. Next, visit the Igrexa de San Pedro, from the XIII century of Gothic Style. Its interior has elements of the Mudejar Style, one of the fewest in Galicia. Lugo is also part of the Primitive Route of the Way of Santiago since the VIII century, and from here, you can discover 111 km of scenic walking paths from the city.
