Just 21km south of Spain’s capital, Madrid, is the vibrant Town of Móstoles. This town part of the Madrid region has experienced rapid growth in the last few decades. It is changing its residential lifestyle into more urban development, welcoming locals and visitors with great options to make their stay unforgettable. This area has traces of early settlements, but its origins remain unknown until medieval times. Most of its history comes after the XVI-century villa foundation. In the 1800s, its participation in the uprisings against the Napoleonic occupation of Spain made Móstoles a symbol of the country’s history; you can see this in its museums and cultural activities. From spaces to comfortably stay with your family to places to discover on a budget, Móstoles has excellent places to visit as it is transforming into a hub for arts and culture, with its history and closeness to several great places in Spain.

Our recommendations on which areas to stay in:

  • For a confortable stay in Móstoles, you can look for accommodation between the two of the leading districts in the city, the Central district and the West district, near Finca Liana, the biggest park in the town, and close to great restaurants, a modern theater, shopping areas, and several walkable places.
  • For perfect family accommodation, the city’s central district offers accommodation for a family stay in the heart of all the attractions, amenities, and places to discover. Stay close to the Móstoles City Hall, a great area to walk, get to know the town and all the amenities you need in your stay and connect easily to the Madrid metro in the Pradillo Station.
  • Are you traveling on a budget? Mostoles has accommodation for you over the whole city. Still, we recommend the Central and West districts, close to the Hospital de Mostoles Metro Station. You will be close to other parts of Móstoles and Madrid, with affordable food options and supermarkets.

Mósteles – A place to learn and celebrate

Móstoles is an excellent spot to visit, with a rich history and many great places and activities to enjoy. The celebration of Dos de Mayo is the biggest in the town and commemorates its role in Spain’s independence. If you plan to visit Móstoles on the 2nd of May, you will travel back to 1808 with recreations of historical moments of the rebellion that took place here against french’s troops during the Napoleonic wars. This small city has 2500 inhabitants by 1960, and now it has a population of over 200.000 people, so the town has been growing in capacity to welcome people and become an excellent spot for business and innovation in the region.

The city is also a hub for education and culture. In 2008 the town opened the King Juan Carlos University Mostoles Campus, a public university with modernist architecture, and the Dos de Mayo Art Center and Museum, the only place dedicated to contemporary art in the Madrid region. And there are other places to enjoy Mósteles’ culture, such as the Casa-Museo Andrés Torrejón. This museum celebrates the people that participated in the region’s independence, and  Teatro del Bosque, with its modern architecture, this theater is a landmark of the city.

Enjoy the center of the city during your family stay.

Móstoles is a growing city with a different pace than its neighbor Madrid and the perfect spot to visit with family. We recommend staying close to Pradillo Station to facilitate movement around and out of town.

  • Look for accommodation close to Plaza de España. This is one of the city’s central areas with several services close to your stay and just a 3-minute walk from Pradillo Station. Mostoles is a great place to walk, so you and your family can move quickly in the center by walking. If you plan to move around the city without walking, you can use the public transportation system or move by car.
  • This area has several pharmacies and health centers, such as Independencia 21 and Centro de Salud Mayor Bartolomé Gonzáez, just a 5-minute walk from Pradillo Station.
  • And you will be close to several parks and green areas where you can play and stay, such as Parque Cuartel Huertas and the kid’s area of the park.
  • Stay close to Avenida de la Constitución and Avenida del Dos de Mayo. These avenues are part of the city’s central area for restaurants, shops, supermarkets like Dia, and banks like BBVA.
  • In this neighborhood, you can find attractions such as the Museum of the City on Andrés Torrejón Street or the Dos de Mayo Art Center and Museum three blocks away.

So our recommendation for families is to stay in the city’s Central district, close to the Móstoles City Hall and the tourist information office of Móstoles.

The park and everything you look for

A comfortable visit to Móstoles would not be complete without a stay close to park Finca Liana. In the park, you can walk, distract from the city, and enjoy natural areas and a restaurant in the center. Close to the same area as the Teatro del Bosque Sculpture and the Teatro del Bosque, you can find the best food and art offered by the town. Enjoy public art and discover a display of a representation of Pablo Picasso’s Guernica in the corner of the park.

The area near Avenida de Portugal is walkable public to discover food and shopping spots. Walk through Calle Montero and find local tapas at Bakata Bar, Spanish food in El Rincon Extraemeño, or a cocktail in Coffee Gins. And within a 15-minute walk, have a shopping center, such as Dos de Mayo Mall, or the city center close to your accommodation.

So remember to stay between the two main districts of the city, the Central district and the West district, to enjoy nature and amenities at a walkable distance.

Móstoles on a budget

Móstoles is a great affordable destination to visit while on a budget. If you travel to this city, you don’t have to worry about high costs as this is a primarily residential and a university city. You can find affordable accommodation in the whole town. But our recommendation is to stay in the Central and West districts.

You will be closer to supermarkets like Mercadona and Lidl, parks such as Brigadas Internacionales Park, and reliable public transportation from buses and the metro system in Hospital de Mostoles Metro Station.
