One of the youngest districts of the city of Barcelona, Nou Barris welcomes its visitors with its green areas, lively neighborhood life, and culture at its own pace. This district is a great spot to discover a different city. Nou Barris, located north of Barcelona, was one of the last districts to be named in the city in 1984. Here you will find a combination of history and modernity on its streets, as it was a formerly rural area of the city. Now it is part of the working-class Barcelona, a place proudly created by its neighbors. Stay within a unique place in Barcelona and enjoy an undiscovered spot in one of the most important cities of the Mediterranean Sea.

Our recommendations on which areas to stay in:

  • Stay with luxury in the areas close to Via Julia, a place that has several shops, restaurants, and bars located between the neighborhood Verdun and La Prosperitat.
  • For a great family stay, look for an accommodation close to Parc de Can Drago, between Porta and La Prosperitat neighborhood, where you will have everything you may need at a walkable distance.

A district made by its neighbors. – What to know before visiting.

Nou Barris is a district located in the north part of Barcelona, between Collserola Mountain Range and Avenida Meridiana. Its name comes from the original nine (nou) neighborhoods (barris) that conformed it in the 1980s. Most of its residents migrated from the region to this area during the middle of the XX-Century. Nowadays, 13 neighborhoods make up this vibrant and unique area.

The neighbors founded the district. Its residents wanted to transform the area into an excellent place to live and grow. That’s why it has a strong local identity and community feeling that has made the district develop with many modern features and several parks to improve the life of its inhabitants. You can enjoy its significant history and community life in several public areas and modern architecture.

Within the Parc Central de Nou Barris is the Nou Barris Public Library in La Guineueta neighborhood, a former psychiatric institution from 1889 with modernist architecture now transformed into a library and part of the city council. Close to this area is the Parc de la Guineueta, one of the many urban green spaces of the city. Find in this neighborhood walkable areas, fountains, and monuments in places such as Parc de l’Aqüeducte in the community of Ciutat Meridiana. A park developed by residents to improve the living in the area and invite visitors to discover the fantastic views of the whole city from this spot, surrounded by the mountain range and architecture from the XIX-Century.
