The history of Parla dates back to the Paleolithic era, close to the Arroyo de Humanejos, where the early settlements have been. Later some Celtic tribes, Carthage groups, and Romans inhabited the area. In 711, the area was part of the Cordoba Emirate during the Arab era of the Iberian peninsula and reconquered in 1255. The city, since medieval times, has had a strong farming tradition, which experienced significant population growth during the 1970s and 1980s, from just over 1500 inhabitants to more than 130 000 today.
