Priego’s historic center (Barrio de la Villa) sits on a hill that majestically dominates all the surroundings. Here you can lose yourself in the atmosphere while wandering its narrow alleys and visiting its baroque churches. The area is famous for its one-story cottages, which are painted in pristine white and are covered in charmingly potted flowers, even in the dead of winter.
Centrally located, the Plaza de la Constitución is a good point of reference and one which you can use to visit most of the town. Helpfully, this is also where you can find the Tourism Office, situated on the ground floor of the Ayuntamiento (Town Hall). Here you can pick up a map and find out the latest opening hours of the churches and castle (which can be very sporadic!). On one extreme of the plaza is the Calle del Rio. Down this street there are a number of interesting churches, cafes and tapas bars, and if you make your way to the end, you will find the beautiful Fuente del Rey (King’s Fountain), finished in 1803 and now a national monument.
Areas to stay as a family

From here you can easily walk up to El Adarve, a mirador, which is home to the most breathtaking view in the town – a sea of olive trees and mountains. The roads around the mirador and Barrio de la Villa can be quite steep so be mindful of this if traveling with young children or anyone with mobility difficulties.
