Its historical center is divided in two by El Tajo de Ronda, a deep chasm that carries the Guadalevín River.

Many cultures have lived in the area through the ages. Still, its origins date back to the Celts, who named the city Arunda around the VI century BCE. Later the area was populated by the Phoenicians, and after, it was inhabited by the greeks, calling it Runda. But the town as we know it today was founded by the Romans in the III century BCE. It is the most famous bridge in the city and is considered one of the tallest bridges in the world.
