Toledo was part of the Roman Empire, later the capital of the Visigoth Kingdom, and then part of the conquests of the Muslims in the Iberian Peninsula until the reconquest process, which brought great prosperity to the city, transforming it into the Imperial City and site of the Spanish Court of the era.  The Romans left a mark on the city’s history, constructing several facilities and buildings you can discover today, such as the remnants of the underground storage facilities of Cuevas de Hércules or the roman road of Vía Monumental Romana. Also, find the city’s defensive walls that used to enclose the Old Town since the Islamic era.
